Leader of the Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and YSRCP leader Botch Satyanarayana called for greater political empowerment of the Kapu community, saying it was not getting proper representation in the Assembly, Parliament and local bodies based on population.

He was addressing the Turpu Kapu Atma Gowrava Sammelana Sabha in Srikakulam on Sunday, which was attended by community leaders and members of the public irrespective of party affiliation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Botcha said that political parties are ignoring the importance of the community for the development of the state. TDP MLC Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao, MARKFED director Anepu Ramakrishna Naidu (TDP) has pressed for allotment of more seats to the Kapu community, which is sidelined in North Andhra region including Srikakulam district. They said seats were allotted to other communities in Etcherle, Rajam, Palakonda and other places, though the population of Kapus was higher than other communities there. Srikakulam Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha Peerukatla Vithal Chairman, Kapu Welfare Association leaders Surangi Mohana Rao, Sasanapu Joginaidu and others were present.
