University of Hyderabad (UoH) student organizations on Saturday participated in a nationwide bandh demanding 42% quota for Backward Classes in education, employment and local polls.
All India OBC Students Association President G. Kiran Kumar demanded that the central government approve the Telangana laws providing 42% reservation in BC and include them in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution to protect them from litigation.
The organizations emphasized that the demand was based on the caste survey data and the constitutional principles of equality, representation and social justice. They condemned the government’s bias in exceeding the 50% reservation limit for economically weaker sections while denying OBCs their rightful share. AIOBCSA, AISA, ASA, BSF, DSU, FRATERNITY, MSF, NSUI, PDSU and TSF participated in the protest.
