Zakir Khan recalls racist encounter in first grade in new clip | Today’s news

Comedian Zakir Khan’s years-old podcast has resurfaced online, drawing new attention to conversations about racism, prejudice and assumptions Indians can face when traveling abroad.

Zakir Khan’s flying anecdote sparks new debate on racism

The clip, taken from Khan’s appearance on YouTuber Max Amini’s Wild Truth podcast, has been widely shared across social media platforms in recent days. In the interview, Khan reflected on an incident he said happened while boarding a plane where he felt both the flight attendants and fellow passengers were skeptical that he belonged in the first class cabin.

Speaking about his experience, Khan described how he tried to place his luggage in the overhead compartment when he was confronted by a flight attendant.

“This flight attendant was holding my hand and turning me around to see if I was flying first class or not. But at the same time, there was also an old white lady trying to stop me (keeping my luggage). It was all happening at the same time,” he said.

According to Khan, the elderly passenger repeatedly insisted that he could not fit the luggage in the compartment. He responded by explaining that the position had been assigned to him. He further claimed that the flight attendant questioned whether he was sitting in the correct section of the plane.

The comedian claimed the interaction escalated when a flight attendant told him: “This is not your seat.”

Khan said he turned away against the assumption, recalling his response to the crew member: “You have a problem with an Indian traveling in first class.”

The recovered clip sparked considerable discussion online, with many social media users linking the incident to the wider experience of racial stereotyping and class assumptions faced by Indians internationally. Others have debated whether such encounters stem from individual prejudices or broader perceptions related to race, nationality, and economic status.

While the specific circumstances of the incident could not be independently verified, the story resonated with audiences amid ongoing conversations about discrimination experienced by minority travelers.

The clip’s renewed circulation has also sparked renewed interest in Khan’s personal and professional journey, which has seen him become one of India’s most successful stand-up comedians.

The renewed attention comes shortly after another major update from Khan regarding his career plans. During a performance in Hyderabad as part of his Papa Yaar Tour, the comedian revealed that he intends to significantly scale back his live performances in the coming years. Khan told the audience that he may step back from touring for three to five years, potentially staying off the road until 2030.
