Fears of urea shortage in SPSR Nellore district are unfounded, Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy said on Sunday (June 14, 2026) as the government decided to clear farmers’ doubts about supply.

This is more so in the SPSR Nellore district, which is known for its vast tracts of flat land and hence the promise it holds for agriculture, and especially rice cultivation.

It is just a myth that there is shortage of urea in Kovuru constituency.

The Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Input Management System (APAIMS), a digital platform in the form of a mobile application designed to provide a stable agricultural support system to farmers, has been piloted in this district. Interestingly, the distribution of urea to farmers by the Department of Agriculture is also done through this app.

Initially, it was decided to provide 1.5 bags of urea per acre, but when farmers expressed concern about whether it would be enough, the same was increased to 2.5 bags and finally to 3 bags per acre.

Difficulties were noticeably experienced in getting the details of farmers and plots entered in the application to ensure seamless supply of urea. However, the delay that occurred in the process began to translate into unavailability.

Secured delivery

Paddy is grown on 55,000 acres in the Kovur constituency through which the Penna River flows. Planting of paddy seedlings (varinaatlu) has been completed in 42,000 acres and the remaining extent will be covered in a week.

“4.5 tonnes of urea has been supplied against the total requirement of 7 tonnes in our constituency. Another 2.5 tonnes is ready for delivery at Inamadugu godown. In Buchireddypalem mandal, 1350 tonnes of urea has already been disbursed for 7600 acres of agricultural land. So the fear of shortage of urea in Vemiovurda is allayed. Prashanthi Reddy said on media conference.

She urged farmers not to believe the fabricated stories spun by “vested interests” to drive a wedge between them and the government.
