
A five-day training program on “Integrated Pest Management” for agriculture and horticulture officials emphasized the safe and judicious use of pesticides to protect plants, people and pollinators; different types of insect damage and disease management in major crops. The training will end on Friday (October 17, 2025).
The program was organized at the Indian Grain Storage Management and Research Institute (IGMRI), Rajendranagar, Central Integrated Pest Management Centre.
How to reduce the harmful effects of rodents, wild pigs and monkeys in the main crops and organic farming were also discussed.
IPM practices
Sunitha Pandey, Acting Co-Director, IPM Division, highlighted the adoption of integrated pest management practices such as installation of pheromone traps, light traps, sticky traps and biological pest control agents.
Suneetha Routhu, plant protection officer at the Central IPM Center in Hyderabad, said training was given to agriculture and horticulture officials to inform farmers. Reduced use of pesticides and adoption of IPM practices help protect the environment and provide safe food, she said.
