In a bid to improve road infrastructure and enhance citizen safety, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has launched an initiative to identify and upgrade 100 major critical roads in the city.
M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner, GBA, held a review meeting with chief engineers of all city corporations on Wednesday and explained the action plan.
Each zonal chief engineer will select 10 key roads in their jurisdiction, taking feedback from citizens on issues such as potholes, damaged pavements, inadequate lighting, flooding and accident-prone black spots.
As part of the initiative, Mr. Rao emphasized that the emphasis would be on long-term and durable solutions rather than temporary fixes. “Any work carried out by BWSSB or Bescom on these roads will require GBA approval to ensure coordinated planning and execution,” he said.
To maintain transparency and accountability, the authority has scheduled weekly review meetings to monitor progress on these critical roads. All development commissioners, chief engineers of corporations and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
