BMTC to start Volvo AC bus service between Bengaluru and Tumakuru

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has launched a new air-conditioned Volvo ‘Vajra Vistara’ bus service between Bengaluru and Tumakuru from May 19 to improve connectivity between the city’s public transport.

According to a BMTC press release, the company will initially operate 54 journeys at 20-minute intervals between Kempegowda bus station in Bengaluru and Tumakuru.

The route was inaugurated on Tuesday by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the presence of Transport Minister and Muzrai Ramalinga Reddy. The fare for the entire journey has been set at ₹120 inclusive of GST and tolls. The buses stop at several places en route including Navarang, Govardhan Talkies, Goraguntepalya, Jalahalli Cross, T. Dasarahalli, 8th Mile and Widia Stop before reaching Kyathsandra and Tumakuru. Ticket prices will vary according to boarding points, starting at ₹25 at Navarang and going up to ₹120 for Tumakuru.

BMTC currently operates 6,275 timetables with 65,952 trips per day, catering to around 45 million passengers every day. BMTC also operates 1,741 electric buses as part of its fleet.
