It was another chaotic morning on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) – home to many of India’s top tech companies – as heavy traffic brought the stretch to a standstill during peak office hours on Wednesday. Dozens of vehicles were stuck in the jam, leaving office goers helpless as the traffic jam stretched for several kilometers. A viral video shared by the Civic Opposition of India on X showed dozens of cars, including a school bus, stuck in a traffic jam. Echoing tech giants like Infosys, Wipro, Google and Accenture, users urged action because they “can’t afford to sit for six hours a day just sitting in traffic.”
Residents reacting to the video expressed frustration and attacked “incompetent” Indian bosses, saying many American firms advise: “If your commute is more than an hour, go hybrid.” But Indian bosses are busy proving loyalty instead of showing empathy.
The post generated a number of comments. Here are some of the responses:
The user wrote two options: “Companies should provide free but mandatory buses for employees. For each bus, 50 less cars on the road. In a month, an employee must travel by bus at least 10 days, if not, it is considered vacation.”
Close offices in Bengaluru and open them in Mysuru, Hosur, Mangaluru etc.”
Another user wrote: “If you build a city, its parks and apartments, then plan roads, it’s a problem. Learn from Hyderabad to lighten the load by building better and futuristic infrastructure in advance. You need to ensure affordable housing and mandatory relocation while creating parks.”
A third user said: “The last time I visited Bengaluru was in 2017. It took me three hours to get from the airport to the hotel where I was attending the event. I had to puke and get the trip out of my system before entering the event. I’ve never visited since then and I hope I never will. Bengaluru couldn’t hold more people in 2017. We’re in 2025 and the government is blaming Bengaluru.”
The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has issued an update on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) reporting heavy traffic jams on Varthur–Marathahalli Road and Vibgyor Road due to the ongoing closure of Panathur Road.
According to authorities, Panathur Road is expected to reopen to public from next Friday, which should help ease traffic on the Varthur–Marathahalli stretch and reduce overall congestion on the ORR.
