The Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) Abolition Movement staged a protest in Chennai on Wednesday and reiterated its demand to restore the old pension scheme. Frederic Engels, state coordinator of the CPS Abolition Movement said that the DMK had assured in its election manifesto that it would restore the old pension system. “More than 48,000 employees have retired since 2003 and are yet to receive their gratuity. More than 8,000 have died and their families have not received their family pension,” he said.
Mr. Engels reiterated his demand to restore the old pension system and said a committee headed by an IAS officer had submitted an interim report. “Even the report submitted by the previous committee has not been made public. The Tamil Nadu government should immediately restore the old pension system without further delay,” Engels said.
