The Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to initiate action on the representation of journalist Durgam Ravinder on “various aspects” of the management of Hyderabad public schools in Begumpet and Ramanthapur.
A bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin passed in this direction after hearing a PIL petition filed by a journalist highlighting various issues regarding the management of the two schools. The petitioner wanted the HC to demand records from the HPS management to know why the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes hostels were closed.
The petitioner also wanted to know the status of implementation of reservations for SC, ST and Backward classes in admission of students and recruitment of employees. The journalist raised questions about the management of funds collected through fees collected from students, methods adopted in outsourcing contracts related to sports, catering, teaching and security.
The Bench directed the Education Secretary to examine the representation submitted by the petitioner and take action in accordance with law within three months.
