Congress working committee member and MP Kodikunnil Suresh has sought an inquiry into the alleged gold theft in Sabarimala under the supervision of the Kerala High Court, saying justice cannot be expected from the state police.
“If the Sabarimala gold loot is investigated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s police against members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), the truth will never come out. They will shield the real culprits and instead target devaswom officials to close the case,” he said while addressing a reception organized for the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (VKPCC). Samrakshana Yatra at Chelakkara on Wednesday.
Led by Mr. Suresh as captain and TN Prathapan, KPCC political affairs committee member, as vice-captain, the yatra met with enthusiastic reception at several centers in the district, including Guruvayur and Thrissur.
“No Moral Right”
Mr. Suresh accused the state government of betraying the faith of devotees and desecrating sacred temples. “A government that destroys faith and loots holy shrines has no moral right to remain in power. Once in power, they become corrupt and shameless. Pinarayi’s government must be removed before further damage is done,” he said.
He also recalled that a comprehensive Sabarimala development plan utilizing 300 acres of land was launched during former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s tenure but was derailed by the Left Democratic Front government.
“Devaswom minister VN Vasavan even ‘violated’ temple rituals at Parthasarathi temple in Aranmula. The offerings meant for the deity were consumed by the minister before the deity was served. Even Tantris confirmed the violation of custom. The CPI(M) has stooped to the level of not showing any restraint or respect for the alleged faith,” Mr.
