The Organization of Democratic Students All India (AIDSO) criticized the reported statement of the Minister of Health Education Sharan Prakash that the state government proposed to establish six new government medical faculties according to the model of the public and private sector (PPP).
“This proposal, announced during the Minister’s press conference, is the next step towards privatization, commercialization and corporation of education, especially medical education. The PPP model in the name of development is nothing but a tool that passes public resources to private profit.
In his statement, AIDSO said: “Education-especially medical education-not commodity for sale, but social law that the government itself has to provide. Instead of succumbing to the dictates of the corporate lobby and others, the government must allocate reasonable funds from the public treasury.”
AIDSO called on students, teachers and all progressive parts of society to resist this “anti-human movement” and demand that all new medical universities be set up and operated only under public property and democratic control.
