The “Swachh Kodag’s Sundar Kodag” campaign, which took place on Wednesday, caused the public a positive reaction, in what is considered the largest such initiative in the district.
It was held at the same time throughout the district and was organized by Coorg Hotel and Restaurant Association and included the participation of thousands of volunteers and parties.
Mantar Gowda, Mla; Venkat Raja, Deputy Commissioner; And others started the event in Circle General Thimayya Circle in Madikeri.
Mr. Gowda, while appreciating the initiative and spirit for the campaign, said that Kodag was endowed with natural and picturesque beauty and was the duty of every citizen to protect her. He pointed out some of the district administration policies and pointed out that there was a ban on plastics with one use (SUP) and the sale of water bottles under the capacity of two liters-all helped to reduce waste.
Mr. Gowda, who would say that cleanliness should not be a one -day matter, demanded 24×7 throughout the year after driving to ensure that cleanliness became part of the district culture.
The Commissioner’s representative stated that the waste collected during the campaign would be moved to the waste management facility for scientific waste disposal. Node officers were appointed to supervise the collection of waste and its proper disposal in all taluks, said Mr. Venkat Raja.
K. Dinesh Kariappa, who represented supervision, said that the campaign was attended by more than 320 organizations and the reaction exceeded expectations. Although tourism was accused of environmental problems, efforts were made to support sustainable tourism and this initiative was part of it, Mr. Kariappa added.
The Association said that the “Clean Coorg” campaign will not be a one -day affair, but similar units will be regularly held at local levels throughout the district focusing on tourist interest places.
The campaign was supported by the Kodag District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, the Ministry of Tourism and the Madikeri City City Council.
