
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, who has been on her first official visit to India since she took over at the beginning of this year, said on Tuesday, October 14 that “Canada’s main report brings to India that we are here to promote a relationship with India”.
She said Canada had two areas of focus. One of them is “public security at home (Canada)” and the other is “strengthening economic relations with India”.

“While we focus on domestic public security in Canada, we also strengthen economic relations with India, including AI, climatic actions, links between people and many other areas,” she said on Tuesday.
“We are looking forward to close cooperation with India,” she added.
Anita Anand arrived in New Delh on Sunday evening (October 12) as part of her three -country tour. From October 12 to October 17th is on a diplomatic visit to India, Singapore and China.
Her visit came in the middle of the ongoing effort to reset two -sided links between India and Canada.

Anita Anand meets Jaishankar
Before the trip, the Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar met Anita Anand at the UN General Assembly in New York on September 29.
Jaishankar described it as “good meeting”. He also welcomed the appointment of high commissioners as a positive step in rebuilding custody. He also said that “looking forward to welcoming” the Foreign Minister in India.

Anita Anand meets PM modi
During her visit, Anita Anand met Prime Minister Narendra Modi 13 October. They discussed the importance of enhanced cooperation between the two countries in trade, energy, technology, agriculture and ties to people.

According to release from the Prime Minister’s office (PMO), the Prime Minister Modi also handed over Mark Carney to his Canadian counterpart during the meeting and expressed eagerness for future obligations.
“The Prime Minister has marked the importance of increased cooperation between the two countries in trade, energy, technology, agriculture and relationships between people. The Prime Minister gave his warm wish to Prime Minister Mark Carney and said he was looking forward to their upcoming engagement,” he read.
It welcomes Anand and the Prime Minister stressed that her visit would put a “new momentum” in the Indian Canadian bilateral partnership.
He also remembered the visit of Canada in June 2025 at the G7 summit, where he organized an “extremely productive meeting” with PM Carney and laid the foundation for extended cooperation.
“The Prime Minister welcomed Foreign Minister Anand and said her visit would contribute to the continuing efforts to hand over the new dynamics to the bilateral partnership in India-Canada. The Prime Minister remembered his visit to Canada this June this year.
Anita Anand meets Piyush Goyal
Minister of Trade Unions and Minister Piyush Goyal also met Anand and later shared an update on the X -Social Media platform.
“Minister @anitaanandmp in Vanijya Bhawan welcomes today. She was pleased to know that her determination to strengthen the connection of people between our two countries,” Goyal said.
He added: “Our discussions focused on exploring areas of cooperation in the field of energy, technology and food safety. She also repeated India’s readiness to revive mutually beneficial trade, investment and economic ties based on trust and respect.”
