Since there are only a few weeks to appear in the body’s vote, the state government is preparing to start the second phase of the development of the Vishinjam International Port – is expected to start in the first week of November. The opening ceremony is scheduled for November 5. The second phase will see an investment of 9,700 GBP Crore port concessionaire Adani Vishinjam Pvt. Ltd. (AVPPL).
The Ministry of the Environment and Forests has already provided environmental permits for development, which launched commercial operations of 3 December 2024. According to the main plan prepared for the development of a multipurpose port for Hluboká Voda, a wavy, which currently has a length of about 3,000 m, will be extended by 1.2 km by 1.2 km.
The main plan also includes the provisions on the development of the courtyard of containers and the related infrastructure behind the extended bed by 1,200 m (within the port limits). Multipurpose anchorage to be constructed in a length of 1,220 m will allow the port to handle different types of cargo and vessels. The liquid bed with a length of 250 mV proximity to the wavy and the development of the liquid storage device (the product will be stored in the tanks in the port area) will help to wear bulk liquid and gaseous load. The development is expected to reclaim 77.17 ha and excavator ~ 7.20 mm3.
According to sources, although an investment of 9,700 GBP is estimated on the development of the next phase, an increase is expected to increase by more than 50 percent of estimated costs. If the first phase of development was conducted together by the State Government and AVPPL, the development of the following phases is the responsibility of AVPPL itself. The port has so far facilitated 525 ships, of which more than 30 ultra -large ships, and processed 11.6 Lakh twenty feet of equivalent units (teus) cargo. Upon completion, the annual handling capacity of the port will increase to more than 4 million TEUs, which will make Vishinjam the largest harbor for handling containers in South India.
