“Corruption and uniform can never go together” was a dull news from the new Police Director (DGP) Telangany B. Shivadhar Reddy to all police staff in the state.
He talked to them about the principles that must define modern police activities. In a strongly formulated note issued to all DGP officers, he warned that strict disciplinary measures would be taken against any police officer who indulges in corrupt practices.
He said that any such misconduct damages the reputation of the whole department and destroys public confidence. “Those entrusted with power and responsibility must follow the highest ethical standards. If they are corrupt, it is not just a personal failure, it is a betrayal of ideals that their uniform stands.”
“Justice means treating each citizen equally before the law, the fort means promoting it without fear or kindness, helpfulness means building trust and empathy in citizens and professionalism means maintaining competence, integrity and responsibility,” he added.
Mr. Reddy, who called on an approach based on a partnership, stressed the fact that the modern police are doing the involvement of the community. He asked officers to work closely with citizens, female groups, students, population and media associations to prevent crime and build confidence.
A human touch with digital intelligence
“The real police are to mix human touch with digital intelligence,” he said, adding that this balance would ensure a faster response, better prevention and more public confidence.
He also called on officers to prove compassion for the poor and weaker parts. “Give the patient to hear those who travel long distances in finding justice. The poor will never forget those who help them in need,” he said.
He reiterated that the police station must not become a civil dispute, which is the domain of civil courts. “Every officer found that he would perform such” Panchayats “in the police premises, he will face a strict action,” he said.
DGP ended his message on the note of pride and purpose and told each officer to wear his uniform with humility, was brave in action, polite in behavior and professional in the approach. “Our duty is not only the enforcement of the law, but also to gain people’s confidence. Uniform is not much, it is a promise of service,” he said.
