
K. Mohandas, former director of Sree Chitra Tiroal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), died on Thursday in Bengalur. He was 81 years old.
Dr. Mohandas, who took over the office as the second director of SCTIMST after the founder director of the Institute of Mrs. Valiathanová, remained in office from 1994 to 2009.
In 2009–2010 he was also the first Vice -Chairman of the University of Health and the Allied Science Keral University of Health and Allied Sciences.
Dr. Mohandas was known for his outstanding clinical skills, leadership properties and passion for innovation and technology development.
Associate
Mohandas, a postgraduate study in anesthesiology from Christian Medical College, Vellore (DA) and Mysore Medical College (MD), began his career as anaesteziology assistant in Sree Chitra Tirnal Medical Center. Was the main anesthesia when the first open heart surgery was performed in the center of 1976
After more than ten years as the professor and head of the Anesthesiology Department, SCTIMST, he was appointed Dean of the Institute in 1993 and in 1994 took over the position of Director of the Institute.
New initiatives, such as a comprehensive epilepsy center, a comprehensive movement center for public health disorders, such as Master of Public Health Courses, launched during its work.
First Indian
Dr. Mohandas was the first anesthesiologist in the world to led the university institution and the first Indian to receive the Honorary Community of the Royal University of Anesthesia in the UK
In 2004 he held various prestigious positions, including the President of the Association of Indian Universities. Between 2005 and 2007, he also worked as chairman of the University of Commonwealth University, which is the oldest and largest international association of universities in the world.
