In the dominant decision of the State Cabinet on Thursday (October 9, 2025), he approved the Menstrual holiday policy Karnataka-2025, which will ensure paid holidays on a day per month across the government and the private sector.

Panel recommendation
Policy moved by the Ministry of Labor Karnataka is governed by the recommendations of the Committee, which submitted its report and sought for paid menstrual holidays. It can be used for all sectors where women are employed.
Although there was no uniform policy on menstrual leave, several states and private societies had a menstrual holiday policy, the Cabinet said.
In order to explore the idea of a menstrual holiday policy, Hindu was hosted by a webinar called “inclusion, equality or division? Exploring menstrual holidays on campuses”. Is it much needed reform for the well -being and integration of students and employees, or does it risk that it creates a new division?
The All-India Congress Congress (Aituc), the Karnataka Committee, said that this step would say in both sectors that this step would seize millions of women and was a progressive measure to protect women’s rights.
He noted that when trade unions strongly urged menstrual leave for one day per month, employers were against it, while the Ministry of Labor recommended six days a year.
“We are now asking the government to immediately take measures to make a decision through a legislative measure,” Aituc said in the note.
