Two army staff disappeared in the anti-terrorist operation initiated 6.-7. October in the Kishtwar-Kernag line in the Chenab Valley, the Indian army said on Wednesday (October 8, 2025). Missing soldiers belong to the Elite Para Commando Army, the official sources said.
The soldiers’ operating team faced a serious snow storm in the mountains of South Kashmir and during the 7th October, a spokesman for the Indian Army in the mountains of South Kashmir said.
“Since then, two soldiers have disappeared from the road. Intensive search and rescue operations have been opened, but (efforts are) prevented due to the prevailing unfavorable weather conditions,” the spokesman of the army said.
There is an operation on the monitoring of missing soldiers on both sides of the mountains, Kishtwar in the division of JammĂș and on the side of the covernag in the Kashmir division, the officials said.
South Kashmir’s mountain belts have received six to eight inches of snow in the last three days.
Officials stated that the security forces looked at all angles and started several operations from multiple points in hard terrain and dense forests by covernag and Kishtwar. “However, there was no contact until Wednesday evening,” the officials said.
In the last two years, the growing presence of terrorists in the upper range of mountain belts has forced the security forces to carry out patrols in hard terrains in Kashmir, the Chenab valley and PIR Pirjal Valley.
In 2024, the official data indicated that 18 security staff and 13 millitatives were killed in the Jammu division at approximately 30 contacts, assaults or antimilitation operations. The Udhampur, Reasi, Doda and Kishtwar district in Udhampur has increased militance in the upper range. In 2024, about 13 millitants were killed.
Exchanging fire
Meanwhile, police spokesman in PIR Prir Pirjal Valley said that on Wednesday (October 8, 2025) the fire between terrorists and the J&K police surgical group in Rajouri, Rajouri, Rajouri.
“Parties of the police, the army and the CRPF (Central Reserve police forces) threw themselves into the place and drowned from the area,” the police said.
The police did not confirm any terrorist victims in shooting. “The operation continues in the area,” the officials said.
