On Wednesday (October 8, 2025), the Central Electoral Committee of Congress (CEC) met and learned to clean up 25 candidates for the upcoming Bihar elections in chairs that are traditional congress forts.
Although interviews for seat sharing are still taking place with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress is expected to be within 55 to 60 seats in the opposition alliance in Bihar.
To discuss the CEC, including the chairman of the Sonia Gandhi parliamentary party, the CEC, the head of the MALLIKARJUN KHARGE, and the opposition leader at Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. The General Secretary of AICC (organization) KC Venugopal and treasurer Ajay Maken were among the leaders who attended a meeting held in Bhawan, the new headquarters of the party.
Congress Fortress
Congress chief Bihar Rajesh Ram said that the party leaders had patiently heard leaders from the state and added that the armchairs discussed during the meeting are those who have already been cleaned by alliance partners and were a fortress of congress.
“At the CEC meeting, we said that the chairs that are traditionally held by Congress will remain with us … which the candidates also decided after the negotiations,” said Bihar Congress chief.
“But we will announce the names of candidates only after discussion with our alliance partners and also with our state leaders,” said Mr. Ram, adding that the number of seats that each partner will compete will be announced together.
“We are satisfied with the seats discussed today at the CEC meeting … All the best leaders agreed with our proposals and candidates proposed by state leaders,” he said.
“No Fighting Seat Sharing”
Congress chief Bihar insisted that there was no struggle among Mahagathbandhan partners. “Together we decide on candidates and announce them at a press conference after clarity among all our partners,” he said.
Congress leader at Bihar Assembly Shakeel Ahmed said that CEC has given his consent to the candidates in the chairs that are the fortresses of congress. “One round of discussions with alliance partners remains, and then we decide on the chairs that each of them attacks,” Ahmed said in response to seat sharing questions.
CEC and MP Kishanganj Mohammed Jawaid later confirmed that the party had cleared the names of 25 candidates for upcoming surveys.
On Thursday (October 9, 2025), the leader of Congress, such as Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel and Jairam Ramesh, is likely to publish an indictment in Patna against the Nitish Kumar-Cledged NDA in the state.
