The larger authority of Bengalur (GBA) joined the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) to manage the project of the ambitious Bengalur project with ambitious Bengaluru.
The project will receive over 3,500 GBP Crore in financing from the World Bank, while the key participating party including GBA, BWSSB, smaller irrigation and the State Monitoring Center of the Karnataka natural disaster (KSNDMC). The project is expected to be modeled on the IISC city flood model for Bengaluru, with fundamental modifications to be in line with the GBA goals. This development is governed by discussions between GBA officials and World Bank representatives.
M. Maleshwar Rao, the main commissioner of GBA, said that the initial meeting with World Bank officials was fruitful and that the water resistance project will soon move to the implementation phase. “Not only that, but the World Bank offered technical assistance for GBA projects that are currently discussed and will be explored,” Mr. Rao told Hindu.
In addition to IISC and IIT-M, the project will include the State Authority for the management of natural disasters of Karnataka (KSDMA), a laboratory based on Bengalur and Think Tank Ctep. Munish Mourdgil, a special commissioner (income), GBA, confirmed that both private agencies would contribute to their services within the non -financial memorandum.
The GBA source involved in the project explained that civic authority focuses not only to alleviate floods caused by poor rainwater infrastructure, but also to improve the overall water safety in the city. This includes storage and harvesting of rainwater, river basin development and long -term challenges, such as floods, drought and other climate -related risks.
For example, the project will strengthen rainwater (SWDS), prevents the specification of drains and lakes to increase underground water levels, identify natural solutions for the flood areas and set maintenance plans for SWDs in the summer months.
“IISC will update its model and make the necessary modifications to meet the project objectives. The model requires advanced technology for processing and visualization and IIT-M will provide support in this area,” the source said.
Laboratories and CSP will contribute by adding the value of designing strategies and ideas to increase the design and implementation of the project, adapted to the specific needs of Bengaluru. KSNDMC will provide proactive and innovative inputs of science and technology, as well as support for capacity building. IIT-M will offer the necessary training of employees to ensure successful project implementation.
The project implementation will be driven by Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd. (BSMILE), special accounting vehicle established for mega projects.
