The Kasaragod CPI(M) secretariat meeting sees sharp criticism from the state leadership

A meeting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) district secretariat in Kasaragod reportedly drew strong criticism from the state leadership following the party’s crushing defeat in the assembly elections with scathing remarks aimed at state secretary MV Govindan.

The meeting discussed several political and organizational decisions taken during the election campaign as well as damage to the party’s public image. From the selection of candidates for the Taliparamba constituency to the alleged controversy over the Payyannur fund, several issues have come under fire.

The leaders reportedly noted that uncertainty over the last-minute selection of candidates in Taliparamba had created confusion among party workers and voters. Inadequate consideration of the opinions of local leaders is said to have caused dissatisfaction in the basic structure of the party. The meeting also assessed that the opposition effectively used these shortcomings as a main weapon in the campaign.

The secretariat further discussed the impact of the alleged fund scam in Payyannur, which is said to have significantly affected the political discourse in the district. Participants reportedly said that the issue created a negative image of the party, especially among first-time voters and youth.
