Pakistan captain injured? Fatima Sana Stock Update Ahead of Blockbuster Clash in India
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has given a reassuring update on the injury scare she suffered ahead of the sensational Women’s World T20 match against India at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday 14 June.
During Pakistan’s practice session on Saturday, Fatima was hit on the knee by a powerful shot from Ayesha Zafar as she continued her bowling stride.
The impact left her in visible pain as she collapsed to the ground, prompting the immediate attention of team physios and her teammates. She spent most of the rest of practice on the sideline with ice strapped to her right knee and did not participate in practice.
However, there was positive news for Pakistan as Fatima appeared to have made a speedy recovery. About 45 minutes later, she was able to walk without apparent discomfort and made it to the main court.
Speaking to the media later in the day, the captain downplayed the incident, saying she was fine and that it was nothing more than a routine knock.
“It was just a normal hit of the ball. Ayesha played a shot and the ball hit my knee. I am doing well now,” Fatima said at the pre-match press conference.
PAKISTAN IN POOR FORM
Pakistan head into the Women’s T20 World Cup with significant concerns about their form and consistency. They suffered a heavy nine-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka in the warm-ups despite posting a competitive 168/8, before going down to Scotland by 41 runs using the DLS method.
Their preparations were far from ideal. While captain Fatima Sana impressed with both bat and ball, Pakistan struggled to produce a complete team performance. The batting often depended on a few key players, while the bowling attack lacked the incisiveness required to consistently face stronger opposition. Losses to Sri Lanka and Scotland highlighted pre-tournament weaknesses in both departments.
Pakistan also found themselves in a tough group. Alongside India, they face formidable opponents in Australia and South Africa, with Bangladesh and the Netherlands completing Group A.
