In the tragic incident, a massive landslide in the Bilaspur district in the Bilaspur district, at least 18 passengers, was hit on Tuesday evening on a private bus in which they traveled.
The incident occurred in the Bhalughat area in the Jhandutty segment.
The bus, which was estimated to be 30 to 35 passengers, was on the way from Rohtak in Haryana to Ghumarwin.
The police officer involved in the rescue operation said “the whole mountain collapsed on the bus,” which suggests that the chances of survival of passengers are bleak.
So far, 18 bodies have been obtained from the debris and three people have saved and sent to the hospital, the BJP MLA from Jhanhutty JR Katwal, who was on the spot, said PTI by phone.
Police and district administration officials are currently in place and rescue operations are underway.
Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing occasional precipitation since Monday, which contributes to unstable ground conditions.
Main Minister Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep grief over the accident and ordered officials to speed up the ongoing efforts to rescue and recover, according to an official statement.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi subsequently expressed his deepest condolences over the tragic loss of life in the incident.
Also announced the relief of Gratia £1 Lakh from the National Fund PM on other relatives of every deceased and £50,000 to those injured.
In a post on the social media, PM Modi said: “Loss of loss of lives due to misfortune in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. My thoughts are with affected people and their families at this difficult time.”
“Praying for rapid recovery of the injured. Ex-Gratia Rs. 2 Lakh of PMNRF would be given to another relative of every deceased. The injury would be granted 50,000,” the Prime Minister said.
President Droucadi Murmu also expressed sorrows over the loss of lives in a tragic bus accident.
In the paper on X, President Murm said: “The report of the deaths of several people in a bus accident caused by landslide in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, is extremely tragic. I express condolences to families who have lost their loved ones and prayed for speedy healing of those injured.”
