The tourist tragically threw hundreds of meters to his death as he climbed the mountain in Sichuan, China, after allegedly released his security rope to take photos.
The victim, identified by the authorities as Hong, a 31 -year -old man, died on September 25, while Nama Peak rose, an impressive 5,588 meters peak and the side peak of Mount Gongga. The incident was partially captured in a terrifying video that has been online since then, which shows the moment when it fell from a mountain face.
Fatal sequence
According to a report from the Chinese media outlet, Red Star News, Hong participated in a group of trip to Snowy Mountain. Reportedly he stopped to take a picture of himself against the white horizon and tie his security rope to do so.
While he was trying to stand, he tripped his ointments – metal tips attached to hiking shoes for better ice grip. Witnesses said he did not use an ice ax that could allow him to retreat. He could not regain control, fell to an estimated 100 to 200 meters, and eventually landed on rocky terrain at approximately 5,300 meters above sea level.
One of Hong’s relatives confirmed that it was his first tourism on the mountain.
Emergency services were sent to the scene, but Hong was declared dead upon arrival. His body was then transported to the nearby mountain town of Gongg.
The official investigation is now underway. Officials from the Municipal Education and the Kangding Sports Office said that the tourist group did not report their plans or the necessary climbing permits before the rise.
The local official commented on a clear violation of the security protocol and said, “If matt ointments were not closed and the rope was not canceled, it might not happen.”
The Sichuan Climbing Association explained that Hong was not a professional guide, despite some of the demands of social media commentators.

Months earlier, Russian tourist Olga Permin died in Sri Lanka after trying to take a selfie and leaned dangerously from a moving train. Permin’s reportedly hit the rock and suffered a fatal head injury.
The local authorities confirmed: “The woman knocked on the rock, fell from the train and suffered serious injuries,” she emphasized the extreme risks that individuals trying to capture dramatic photographs.
