The Tamil Government has issued a standard operational procedure (SOP) for the Ferris Operating Giant rounds in the state. SOP monitors certain accidents involving “giant wheels”.
According to the SOP, the duration of each travel must not exceed 10 minutes. “Preschool children should ride on the Russian round at the same time with their parents, so the child is not afraid when the cabin is raised,” she read.
K. Manivasan, Secretary of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Religious Foundations, told the Hindes that SOP was drawn up only after receiving the entrances from all parties, including more departments and operators’ associations. “The operators of permanent giant rounds will now have to register and obtain certificates. The Office for Indian standards will issue certificates.”
“If the wind speed is more than 15 meters/s, the Russian round must be stopped,” he read one of the provisions. Operational staff was told to ensure that there was no abnormal rocking or shaking the Russian round gondola.
SOP applies to permanent Ferris bikes in entertainment parks and temporary at trade fairs, exhibitions and temple festivals. Registration. In the case of the operation of giant wheels with temporary settings, a mandatory license is not required.
It can be used for “giant wheels” that have a maximum height of 18 ft from the ground. According to SOP, the maximum height is permissible for temporary setting of 60 feet. Operators of giant rounds in permanent structures/entertainment parks are registered with the Ministry of Tourism and compulsory to obtain ISO/ISO 21101: 2024 certification.
In the case of temporary giant bike settings, it is necessary to obtain permission from the relevant departments. The operation must obtain a letter of consent and also to ensure permission from the fire and rescue services of Tamil Nadu and the department of public works and water resources.
SOP also has provisions to be maintained during construction, installation and phases. Other requirements listed in the SOP include technical and security inspections, employees and operator requirements, operational staff training, passenger safety protocols, general mechanical operation and maintenance, emergency readiness, monitoring, weather and environmental protocols.
