According to an official statement, all government authorities, schools and universities in Delhi, schools and universities will remain closed in Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti.

According to some ancient legends, Valmiki was born to Agni Sharma Brahmin family. He became a thief that was supported. Once he met a great sage Naada and discussed his duties with him. Agni Sharma moved Naad’s words and began to repent.
He was so immersed in his repentance that huge ants were formed around him. After years of meditation, the divine voice declared its repentance successful and awarded the new name Valmiki, which means “birth from ants”.
On this day, which is also known as Pragat Diwas, the devotees of worshiping Valmiki sect Valmiki Rishi as a form of God, perform shob yatras or parades, while singing devoted hymns and Bhajans, feeding the poor and light Diyas.
