The Drug Campaign Ernakulam rural police on Sunday (October 5, 2025) got a film touch when they decided to pedal on the way of entertainment to create awareness. The police organized a film screening for the population of migrants in Perumbavoor and its surroundings due to frequent cases of narcotic seizures reported from this area.
The Bengal film Pao The Drugs was screened at the EVM Theater in Perumbavoor, in front of a wrapped audience of almost 200 migrating workers, job suppliers and social workers. The film director Zam examines the topic of drug abuse and its consequences.
Sunday screening was organized as part of the “Punarjani Operation”, Drug Initiative led by the Chief of the District Police (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalath. The audience was invited to a free show through reports shared between migrants community and plywood, which employs a large number of workers from other countries.

SCREENING WAS PART OF THE PUNARJANI PROJECT’S EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO THE PUBLY WHILE ALSO STRENGTHENING ENFORMEMENT AND Preventive Measures, ”Said Hardik Meena, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Perumbavoor. After the screening, the audience also took a drug oath.
The field program was organized as a result of a recent incident, when a native of Assam died of heroin overdose in Perumbavoor.
The aim of the Punarjani project, which was launched in July, is to prevent drug circulation between migrant workers, provide medical and psychological support for drug addicts, organize awareness programs, promote alternative lifestyle, carry out inspections and promote participation in sport.
