6,638 meters, Kailash towers near China, India and Nepal. At its base lies sacred lakes, Manasarovar, symbol of purity and Rakshastal, its darker twin. The pilgrimage, known as Kailash Yatra, reaches countless generations. At the age of 30, thousands went on a journey. But history interrupted. After the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1950 and the 1962 Chinese-Indian War, the border closed. Yatra renewed only in 1981 and even today the approach remains limited and firmly regulated.
