SHUBMAN GILL will lead the ODI side, with Shreyas Iyer as his representative, while Rohit Sharma and Virt Kohli will return to playing XI for the first time since the Champions Trophy 2025 final.
“Virtually impossible to have three captains”: Ajit Agarkar explains why SHUBMAN GILL followed Rohit Sharma as Captain Odi
The ODI Indian group sees the absence of PACE Spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who was resting in working workload after three back-to-back tasks in an English test tour, a campaign with a victory in Asia and a ongoing home series against West Indies. When he spoke in the team announcement, the main selector Ajit Agarkar said, “We have already rest for one -day games. When we can manage his work burden, we will do it … We will do it … We will not only take care of him. The All-Rounder Hardik Pandy, who pushed a quadruped injury before the final of the Asia Cup, is not unavailable for the tour either. “It is definitely not available for Australia,” Agarkar added, remarking that Pandy would soon be rehabilitation in the center of Excellence. Spin-Bowling All-Rounder Ravindra Jadeja, although he played a key role in the final of the Trophy Champions, was omitted from the ODI team with regard to the Australian conditions. “He is obviously in the scheme of things with how good he is,” Agarkar said. “With Washa (Washington Sundar) and Kuldeep (Yadav), we don’t need more than in Australia.” Squad ODI includes Wicketkeepers Kl Rahul and Dhruv Jurel, while Pace Attack contains Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prazidh Krishna and Harshit Rana. Kuldeep Yadav is a specialized spinner. All-Rounders Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar provide balance. Agarkar stressed that the integration of Reddy offers a chance to try his skills in cricket white ball: “He showed many promises … We’ll probably see him a little more when he makes a bowl and a bat.”

Do you agree with the BCCI decision to rest Jasprit Bumrah?
For the T20i series, the group is the same as the Asia Cup set, which excludes the inclusion of Nitish Reddy. Agarkar also emphasized the importance of domestic cricket and said, “Whenever the boys are available, they should play a home cricket. That’s the only way to keep you sharp.” India will open a series against Australia 19 October with ODI, followed by five matches T20i leg from 29 October.
