Suicide prevention hotlines

WITHAccording to a joint study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and other institutes in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, suicide is the leading cause of death in the 15-39 age group in India.

The World Health Organization reports that one person dies by suicide every 40 seconds. For every suicide, there are many more people who attempt suicide every year, according to the WHO report.

Suicides are preventable. The WHO suggests a number of measures to prevent suicide, including limiting access to suicidal means, early identification and treatment of people with mental health problems, and follow-up care for people who have attempted suicide, among others.
