The colorful and pulsating Jamboo Savari, the Howdah on the Elephant, marked the climax of Dasar celebrations in Shivamogg on Thursday. Hundreds of people witnessed a parade in the city.
The procession began at the Shivappa Nayaka Palace after offering prayers of Nandi Dhwaja. Howdah was placed on an elephant, Sagar, in the temple.
Minister of School Education Madhu Bangarappa, MLA for Shivamogg Sn Channabasapp and others offered idol flowers.
The day began with the preparation of elephants – Sagar, Bahaddur and Balanna – for the procession. Jeevan, an artist, exhibited his skills about elephants and made them attractive. Elephants were brought from Sakrebail Elephant Camp Pro procession.
Sagar carried Howdah sixth times. For the last 15 years, he has participated in the celebrations of Shivamogg Dasar. Mahouts placed Howdah, who weighed around 450 kg, along with the Idol Chamundeshwari.
The procession was colorful because it included a table and artist. A group of tigers dancers was a special attraction.
People who stood along the parade photographed when the dancers showed their skills. In addition, there were several folk groups, including the artists of Veeragaas and Keel Kudure. Interestingly, the idols of the deities of Shivamogg and the villages on the outskirts of the city also participated in the procession.
The procession ended in Allama PraBhu after covering a prominent street, including Gandhi Bazaar, BH Road, AA Circle, Nezru Road and Durgigudi Road. The rituals in the park witnessed the assembly. The elected representatives, including Lok Sabha member from Raghanendra and higher officials, also participated.
Police took security measures for a smooth procession. Shivamogga City Corporation, in cooperation with other departments and various organizations, has performed various activities in recent days. The activities included competitions for the public, theater performances, music, film festival, street games, seminars that involved different parts of society.
