A Belagava farmer was attacked by a bear, his family says

The farmer’s family members complained that a 25-year-old farmer was injured in a bear attack at Huland village near Khanapur in Belagavi district on Wednesday.

Mahesh Gawade went to the forest near the village to graze his cow as usual. After grazing them all day, he was returning home in the evening when a bear suddenly emerged from the bushes and attacked him.

He tried to climb a nearby tree to save himself from the bear. But the wild animal followed him and bit him hard on the leg. His neighboring farmers heard his cries and helped his family to take him to a private hospital in Belagavi.

“He is recovering. We are investigating the incident,” said Deputy Conservator of Forests Basavaraj Walad.
