Apple has updated its storage requirements for Apple Intelligence – its suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features. Now, it will require nearly double storage space to run on Apple devices like iPhone, iPad, or Mac compared to what you previously needed. This may be because several functional parts of Apple Intelligence Suite are running locally, and related AI models need to be downloaded to make it work properly.
Apple Smart Storage Requirements
Apple has updated its support page for Apple Intelligence, which now states that iPhone, iPad, or Mac requires at least 7GB of storage on the AI Suite. The Cupertino-based technology giant first released requirements to run Apple Intelligence and AI capabilities and iOS 18.1 updates. At the time, iPhone manufacturers said that Apple needed 4GB of space to work smartly. However, it only carries some additions, such as writing tools and web page summary, which were first previewed at WWDC 2025 in June.
Therefore, it is assumed that the storage requirements are consistent with the initial version.
iOS 18.2 arrived in December, bringing Siri’s other major AI features such as Image Playground and Chatgpt Integration. Additionally, future iOS 18 updates are expected to expand this feature set, including contextual understanding in Siri, which is why Apple may update storage requirements to run AI Suite.
Apple Smart Compatibility
Apple says its AI suite is compatible with the entire iPhone 16 series, which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. In addition, two models of the iPhone 15 series are supported – the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max – which are also supported.
In addition to smartphones, iPads with A17 Pro or M1 and later, as well as Macs with M1 and later, qualify to run Apple Intelligence after the latest iPados 18.1 and MacOS Sequoia 15.1 updates.
