Vijayapura-based BLDE and Tumakuru-based Akshaya Kalpa Group have entered into an agreement to train farmers in sustainable dairy farming practices.

The first batch of 20 farmers from Babaleshwar and Tikota taluks went to Akshaya Kalpa Campus in Tiptur for training.

These farmers will study the prevailing technologies of barn building, cow feeding and fodder management, raising calves, poultry and growing various vegetable crops in an ecological system.

BLDE Pro-Chancellor YM Jayaraj, who flagged off the vehicle, hoped that the farmers would imbibe all the skills taught in the short-term course.

He said this is the first of several joint initiatives planned by BLDE Society with Akshaya Kalpa Foundation and Krishikalpa Foundation.

Prof. Jayaraj said the farmers will get hands-on demonstration and training in advanced technologies at the premises of Akshaya Kalpa Institute, which is a model of scientific and organic dairy farming in the country.

“Minister MB Patil, who is the chairman of BLDE Society, wants to increase the prosperity level of farmers in drier areas of North Karnataka through a joint project. It will be expanded and diversified,” he said.

Registrar RV Kulkarni said the farmers will get information on how to ensure profitability of dairy farming through scientific barn management, maintaining cow health, cleanliness and modern technology and how to produce chemical free and quality milk in organic milk production.

He wished that the farmers of Tiptur area would get a chance to join the process of creating a white revolution in Vijayapura district by adopting the Akshaya Kalpa model.

BLDE Communications Coordinator Mahantesh Biradar said that such trainings will give a new direction to the dairy sector in Vijayapura district and inspire the youth to take up self-employment in the coming days.

Dairying is among the most neglected livelihood sectors in North Karnataka. It needs to be promoted through such interventions, he said.

Assistant Registrar Satish Patil, Santosh Biradar of Krishikalpa Foundation and others were present.
