The Kalyan Civic Body in Mahari published a private school announcement of allegedly prohibiting students to wear religious and cultural symbols, the official said on Wednesday (October 1, 2025).
The controversy broke out after some parents raised objections over the forbidding to wear a “tilak” or “bindi” (bindi) on their foreheads, bracelets and raki or sacred fibers.

Some local political parties have pointed out this matter of the Ministry of Education in Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) after the complaints of several parents.
On Tuesday (September 30, 2025), the Ministry sent the school administration to the announcement and demanded an explanation of restrictive rules and alleged repressive steps against students, the official said.
“Immediately after the complaints of the parents, the ministry behaved and sent to school a notice. We hope to solve the problem soon. There is no need to further stretch this matter. The problem will be solved friendly between parents and school management,” the official said.
The school management prevented its policies in its statement and emphasized its obligation to secularism, quality education and safety of students.
“The school has not released any Fatwa,” she said, adding the institution “the highest priority of students’ security.” The school always works to maintain “harmony between school, students, parents, teachers and leadership,” she added.
