World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen and his wife Ella Victoria welcomed their first child and described in their lives a moving new chapter. Ella announced on social media that the child was born on Saturday 27 September.
In a heartfelt post she shared a photo of Magnus and their newborn sleeping side by side – a gentle film that quickly resonated in the chess community. Fide also joined the greeting congratulations and amplified the joy of their announcement.
The couple revealed Elly’s pregnancy in May 2025 when Carlsen published photographs of his wife, who crawled her child with the title “My beautiful pregnant wife.” They were married early this year in January, at a private ceremony in the Holmenkollen chapel in Oslo. At that time, Ella told the followers that they would “find out in a few months” when they ask the sex of the child.
Carlsen and Gukesh Face Again
Although Carlsen is celebrating this joyful milestone, he is preparing for a highly profile return to the board. Chess Club Saint Louis, reopening after the main upgrades, will host Chess Clutch: Legends/Champions Showdown Series from 27 to October 29.
The highlight of this event will be Carlsen’s highly anticipated clash with the ruling world champion D. Gukesh in the Showsons Champions segment. Meanwhile, legends Garry Kasparov and Viswanathan Anand will restore its stormy rivalry in the next awning match.
Duel Carlsen – Gukesh creates enormous excitement and paired one of the biggest players of a modern era with one of the brightest young stars. In 2025, the Indian chess miracle Gukesh amazed the chess world by defeating Carlsen twice.
His first victory came in the Norwegian chess 2025, where he defeated Carlsen in a classic format after the world no. 1 error under time pressure. Later, on Superunited Rapid & Blitz Croatia 2025, Gukesh hit again and played Carlsen in a quick game.
Back-to-back triumphs underline Gukesh’s rise as one of the most amazing young stars in global chess.
