Police on Friday fitted a pet with a GPS tracker to trace two-year-old girl Sunkara Gnaneswari, who has been missing since June 6 from a palm oil plantation in Ch. Agraharam in Tuni mandal of Kakinada district.
According to the police, the child was accompanied by her parents Sunkara Ganesh and Bhavani, who along with their dog work as caretakers of the plantation.
The girl went missing after a miscommunication between the parents, who believed the other had brought the toddler home from the plantation. When the couple returned home, they realized that neither of them had brought the girl home from the plantation.
The following day, the couple filed a complaint with the police in Tuni, who swung into action. On June 9, the missing pet dog returned home without the little girl. Police fitted the pet dog with a GPS tracking device in hopes of finding the missing child.
Tuni Circle Inspector G. Chennakesava Rao told The Hindu, “The pet dog was collared with a GPS tracker so that we could trace the girl based on its movements. Besides, more than 250 personnel from the police department and the State Disaster Response Force were called in for the search operations.”
Mr. Chennakesava Rao further said that at present there is no trace of the girl and a search is still on for her.
