Most Durga Puja committees abolished traditional cultural programs across Assam and limited to grandeur in accordance with the general mood in the state after the death of the singer-composer Zateen Garg.
Assam has been largely sad since Garg died “drowning” in Singapore 19 September.
The large garland portraits or Garg cutouts were placed in the pandals of the Puja so that fans could offer their honors to the cultural icon of the state.
“We stuck to the rituals and avoided playing music except songs, specifically dedicated, sung, detend. Most of us cannot overcome the fact that it is no longer,” said Sajal Pal, associated with the Puja Committee in Guhahati Lal Ganesh, he said.
In the oil town of Digboi, about 500 km east of Guwahati, the Puja was organized in 1942 by the established Bishna of Nepalese Mandir bounded by the gloss associated with the autumn festival.
“This time Garg’s premature extinction threw the shadow at the festival. Ashtami Phulpati (Monday) had a ceremonial touch,” said Naisan Jaishy, President of Nepalese Bish Mandir Durga Puja Samity, he said.
Puja committees also delayed cracked biscuits to ensure a silent border.
