According to the latest report on the National Office for Records for Records records (NCRB), a total of 1,77,335 cases of crime against children were registered in the country.
NCRB data showed that the crime rate in 2023 was 39.9 on a child with one lacher compared to 36.6 in 2022.
In 2022, a total of 1,62,449 cases of crimes against children were recorded, while the number in 2021 was 1,49 404.
“During 2023, a total of 1,77,335 cases of crime against children were registered, which showed an increase of 9.2% compared to 2022 (1,62,449 cases),” said NCRB report.
In the percentage point of view in 2023, the main offenses under “crime against children” were “kidnapping and kidnapping of children” (79,884 cases, 45%) and “protection of children from sexual offenses (PODSO)” (67,694 cases, 38.2%).
Demography of the victims shows that 762 victims were under the age of six, 3,229 years of age between six and 12 years, 15,444 years between 12 and 16 years and 21,411 aged 16 to 18, which brought a total number of children of children 40 846.
Most of them were girls in rape -related sections.
Of the 40,434 cases, the perpetrators were known to the victims in 39,076, which included family members in 3,224 cases, family friends or neighbors or employers or other known persons in 15,146 cases or friends or online partners or living partners about a marriage race in 20,706 cases.
These data include 40,434 cases of penetrative sexual assault (section 4 and 6 POCSO law, often combined with IPC 376 for rape), affecting 40,846 victims. This was followed by impaired attacks and harassment (sections 8 and 10 of the POCSO law with IPC section 354) with 22,444 cases.
The kidnapping and kidnapping appeared as the largest contributor, with 79,884 cases of IPC 19,106 children – rate 18 per lakh.
More than 58,927 of them were general kidnapping, including 37,844 cases where the missing children were considered kidnapped.
In particular, 14,637 cases included the kidnapping of smaller girls to force marriage.
Other significant IPC crimes included 1,219 murders (1,384 victims), with 89 associated with violations of rape or Pocso; 3,050 Simple injured cases and 373 cases of suicide guidance. Special and local laws (SLL), beyond the scope of the law, added to the sum, with 6 038 cases under the Act on the Prohibition of the Children’s Marriage Act and 1,390 pursuant to the Children’s Work Act (Act and Regulation).
Regionally, Madhya Pradesh reached the list with a total of 22,393 cases (rate: 77.9), followed by Maharashtra (22 390; rate: 62) and Uttar Pradesh (18 852; rate: 22,1).
Assam showed a sharp increase in 10 174 cases (rate: 84.2, the highest among states), while Bihar saw 9 906 cases. The territory of the Union such as Andaman and the Nicobar Islands (143.4) and Delhi (140.3) had disproportionately high rates, with Delhi recorded 7,769 cases.
While the total charge leaves were 64.3%, it was very different – high in Tamil Nadu (93.7%) and Andhra Pradesh (91.3%), but low in Delhi (31.7%) and Haryana (39.6%).
Police disposal showed 1.12 290 cases that were examined from 2.57 756 investigated, with 80 198 waiting at the end of the year (pendant: 32.2%).
