Congress will conduct booth-level review of election performance in Thrissur
The Congress constituency leadership has decided to conduct a comprehensive review of its performance in the recent assembly elections with a special focus on booth-level voting patterns across the constituency.
The decision was taken at a meeting of district Congress leaders who decided to scrutinize the election results from each polling station to identify areas where the party lost votes and assess the factors that contributed to these setbacks. The review will also seek to determine whether local organizational weaknesses, campaign flaws or shifting voter preferences played a role in the outcome.
As part of the exercise, all Mandalam Congress Committees have been directed to prepare detailed reports analyzing booth polling trends and submit them to the District Congress Committee. The reports are expected to include recommendations on political strategies, organizational reforms and local initiatives needed to strengthen the party’s position in the district.
Starting this week
Party officials said the evaluation process would begin this week. The review comes at a time when the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has performed strongly across the state but continues to face challenges in Thrissur, a district that has largely remained a Left Democratic Front (LDF) stronghold.
In the assembly elections, the UDF managed to secure only four of the district’s 13 constituencies, including one seat won by the Congress in Kerala.
The rural-urban divide
Political observers also point to a contrasting trend witnessed in local body elections. While the Thrissur Corporation witnessed a decisive swing in favor of the UDF, reflecting growing support in urban areas, the wider district political environment continued to favor the LDF. The result highlighted a stark urban-rural divide, with the Congress doing relatively better in urban and urban centers, while the Left maintained its influence in large parts of the rural hinterland.
