Students of the Government of the First Class of University for Women in Dharwad who registered a protest on Saturday.
The protest was presented in response to the call of all India Democratic Student Organization (AIDSO) to condemn the delay in addressing academic questions even two months after the beginning of the academic year.
In the protests that took place independently, students closed the gates of universities and organized demonstrations that were looking for immediate steps to solve the problem. They argued that at a time when private universities carried out internal exams, students of government universities had no regular classes.
District Secretary of Aidso Shashikala Meti, who addressed the protesters, said that, according to the academic calendar, semestral exams were scheduled in October or November at some universities, including Davangere University. But at many government universities, classes should have been done regularly, she said.
She called on the government to immediately postpone the planned exams and submit the exams only after proper classes were carried out and the lecturers completed the syllabus.
She also tried to know whether state universities were intended only for private universities.
