National Conference (NC) leader and Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo on Friday (Jun 12, 2026) said the Center should review the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) “if the security situation has improved and stone pelting in the Union Territory (UT) has stopped”.
“If the situation is normal and stone pelting stops, then AFSPA should be removed from Jammu and Kashmir first,” said Ms. Itoo, who serves as Minister for Education, Health and Medical Education and Welfare.
Terming Statehood as the “right of Jammu and Kashmir”, Ms Itoo said: “We want back what we had earlier. A protest is also planned at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to press for this demand.”
