All the best for Google’s birthday: Search Giant Google is on a big milestone today, 27 September. The idea that was born in a small garage in the Meanlo park is now the most popular search engine around the world that is used by billions of people around the world.
Almost everyone uses Google every day with Internet access. In fact, you are likely to land on this article using Google. But have you ever wondered what “Google” actually means?
What does “google” mean?
Google is really a smart word about the term “Googol” – a mathematical term that refers to 1 followed by 100 zero or 10 raised to 100.
Googol created Milton Sirott, nephew of Mathematics Edward Kasner.
Therefore, Google intends to reflect the ambitions of Sergey Brin and Larry Page with their search engine and show a huge amount of information.
The story of the name Google
Google was not always called Google. In fact, when Sergey Brin and Larry Page, two Ph.D. Students at Stanford University had an idea to start a search engine after identifying its potential, the name Google was not on their minds.
Google was initially named “Backrub”.
In 1997, however, things changed when the company’s main team began to brainstorm ideas to find a new name for Backrub. They wanted to rename the search engine to something that would reflect the huge volume of the answers it should.
The team came called “Googolplex”, a number that has an almost incomprehensible size – “1 followed by Googol zero”. The main team, however, favored the shorter term “Googol”.
Work on Google registration began as a website when Sean Anderson, another postgraduate student of Stanford, who was part of the appointment team, made an Internet search to see if it is available.
However, he wrote the word as “Google”, which was an available domain name. Larry Page liked the name and Google.com was registered as a site in hours.
Therefore, Google is basically an incorrectly spectacular version of the mathematical term and has created tsunami over the years.
All you need to know about Google
Google started two Stanford PhD students Sergey Brin and Larry Page in 1998. The official date of establishment of the company is September 4, 1998.
However, Google celebrates its birthday 27. September in memory of its inner milestones.
What started as a garage search engine is now a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., a holding company founded in 2015.
Sundar Pichai is now the CEO of Google and Alphabet, a publicly traded company, but Brin and Page remain key initiates and members of the Board of Directors and reserve voting checks.
