The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) has issued a citation to executive committee members Joy Mathew, Lakshmipriya and Tini Tom for allegedly maligning its image through public statements.
The decision to seek an explanation from members was taken at the association’s executive committee meeting on June 3, 2026. The association sent a similar notice to member Ansiba Hassan, former joint secretary, on June 10, 2026.
The announcement stated that the executive committee took note of statements and media interviews by members regarding the association and their disputes with some members. “The Executive Committee believes that your said actions have damaged the association’s image among the public. The committee believed that the above matter could have been resolved amicably within the association using the various remedies available to you as a member of the association,” he said.
The notice further stated that the actions of the members adversely affected the smooth functioning of the association and resulted in loss of good name and good name of the public. As a member, this was considered a violation of the provisions of Article V and Article V(A) of the association’s constitution and constituted misconduct.

Members were invited to submit their responses within a week.
Mr Mathew said on Friday that he had sent his reply to the notice. He said the details of his response could be released because it was an “internal matter” related to the association.
Ms. Lakshmipriya and Mr. Tom were unavailable for comment.
In her reply, Ms. Hassan sought more clarity on the show cause notice she was served in order to provide an accurate response. She asked that the specific violations of the statutes alleged against her be clearly stated. She pointed out that the incidents involving Ms Lakshmipriya and Mr Tom were “purely personal matters” and had no connection with the association, particularly as the association had taken no action despite being aware of complaints against both of them.
On the Lakshmipriya issue, association president Shweta Menon has publicly stated that it is not an association-related issue. “Therefore, as an aggrieved person, I reserve my full right to pursue appropriate legal remedies regarding activities that are criminal in nature. The matter concerning Mr. Tom is of even more serious concern and is reportedly being reviewed by the association’s executive committee,” she said.
