The Communist Party of India (CPI) re -elected D. Raja as the National Secretary General of the party during the ongoing 25th Congress in Chandigarh and abolished the objections from the Kerala unit, which claimed that the age limit of 75 years should be strictly followed. This year Mr. Raja turned 76 years.
According to sources, the National Council searched the decision on Monday evening, allowing Mr. Raja to continue his position to maintain continuity. Mr. Raja is the first leader of the Dalits to occupy the upper point on the left. Mr. Raja took over in 2019, when the then Secretary General S. Sudhakar Reddy resigned from health reasons. Then he was re -elected in 2022 as a party of the party held in Vijayawada.
Contrast to CPI (m)
This is unlike the attitude of the CPI (M), where the 75 -year -old age cap was strictly enforced, leading to a generation shift. At the CPI (M) Congress, which took place in Madurai at the beginning of this year, several leaders, such as former Secretary General of Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat, Surjya Kant Mishhr, Subhashini Ali, manic Sarkar and G. Ramakrishnan, remained on the part of the party’s politics. The only exception was made for the main minister of Keraly Pinarayi Vijayan. He’s 79.
Former MEP Rajya Sabha and State Secretary of CPI Keral, Binoy Viswam and Secretary General Aituc Auducaet Kaur were other candidates for this position. Aituc is a trade union arm CPI.
If Mrs Kaur was elected, she would be the first woman to lead the left party in India.
The party also announced the new 11-member National Secretariat and a 31-member Executive Committee.
During the congress, the party adopted several resolutions, including the demand for the renewal of trade in Pakistan via Attari-Wagah and other border routes in the Pandjab. In the next resolution, which was moved by the State Secretary of CPI Punjab Bant Brar, the party demanded the release of all prisoners who completed their sentences.
“Intense fight”
According to the CPI statement, in its political solution, she said he would intensify the ideological and theoretical struggle against BJP and RSS. The party confirmed that in the upcoming elections to the Bihar, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, the CPI would try to ensure the victory of the left, democratic and secular forces, while in Kerala it would make all efforts to ensure the victory of the left front.
The party also expressed concern about increasing unemployment and the decline in the educational sector. This required the unity of the left and democratic forces against the growing centralization and authoritarian tendencies, he added.
