The tension occurs great for Meenamma, a 60 -year -old inhabitant of Janatha Colon in West Bengalur, diagnosed with breast cancer, after her neighbors received notifications of canceling their BPL cards due to their sons, which exceed the specified income limit.
Although Meenamma has not yet received announcements, she is worried that the messages could come at any time, which would mean that she could no longer use the BPL card to access basic drugs.
“My three sons have left me and live alone, but their names are still associated with all my identification cards, which shows that I will be above the poverty line; Meanwhile, those who have received notifications are worried about the loss of allocation in the coming months, which would increase their financial burden.
Meenamma was one of the more than 50 people who gathered on Wednesday near the Ministry of Food, Civic Deliveries and Consumer Affairs to submit a memorandum and emphasize what they call “unscientific” implementation by abolition.
The memorandum pointed to the main mistake in this process and noted that the BPL card criteria were set in 2017, but since then the costs of basic commodities have increased significantly. It questioned how the same outdated income limit can still be used to determine BPL capacity.
He also said that BPL cards provide access to various benefits, including student scholarships, treatment in government hospitals and medicinal products. If the abolition is carried out many, poor families will face serious problems.
The memorandum quoted examples of outages in implementation. Uber driver card was canceled because its own quad bike. Many contractual workers who do not have permanent jobs earn a salary of approximately 15,000 ₹, but because the TDS is deducted from their reward, their cards have been canceled, quoting tax, which means they are above the poverty line. However, these workers often go without a job and rely on BPL cards for allocation. In addition, many families did not collect rations for two months to close the trade. Now, those who have not accepted rations are classified as above the poverty line, the memorandum said.
Muniyamma, a 60 -year -old inhabitant Halegudadhalli with a heart condition, depends on her BPL card for medicines. “I worked as a ragpicker and my fingerprint is not recognized by a fingerprint system. Because I haven’t gone out allocates for several months, they can cancel my card. Where should I go right now?” She asked.
Govindamma, 57, faces the same problem. Similarly, Sagay Mary (58) said she was denied rations on Tuesday after her BPL card had been canceled.
However, the sources in the consumer matters stated that no BPL cards have been canceled yet, except when a person holds two cards in different states. “We are currently focusing only on people with duplicate cards. If someone is incorrectly rejected, it can file a complaint against the 1967 help line,” the source said.
The source further explained that the department did not verify all cards, but only those of more than 7 lakh dubious cards marked by the central government. If the name is incorrectly removed, the affected person may approach the Tahsildar and submit an application that will be reviewed and will be re -added.
