Gwalior’s Yashbardhan Chauhan will lead India U-19 on the tour of Sri Lanka
Gwalior has a major reason to celebrate as local youngster Yashvardhan Singh Chauhan has been named the captain of the Indian Under-19 cricket team for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Chauhan will lead both the ODI and multi-day teams, marking a significant milestone in his budding cricket career and further highlighting the growing pool of talent from central India.
A student of The Scindia School, Yashvardhan is widely recognized for his balanced batting style and natural leadership skills. His rise through the ranks has been closely watched at domestic level and his promotion to captain is seen as a reward for consistent performances and maturity beyond his years. His appointment created widespread excitement among cricket fans, coaches and supporters in Gwalior and surrounding areas.
Lakshya Raichandani was named as his deputy after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for both tour formats. Apart from the pride of the Chambal region, Manal Chauhan has also been included in the India Under-19 squad, underscoring the region’s strong representation in the youth squad. The Indian U-19 team’s preparatory training camp will begin on June 23 before they leave for Sri Lanka on June 30. The tour will feature a competitive program comprising three one-day internationals and two multi-day matches. The first ODI is scheduled to be played on July 4 in Hambantota where the young Indian side will begin their overseas campaign.
The selection was warmly welcomed across the region, with coaches, officials and cricket enthusiasts congratulating both players. Many have expressed confidence that the duo will make the most of this opportunity and represent the country on the international stage with distinction.
