Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra ordered the Wayanad district to continue to meet the basic requirements of the Hittylathur inhabitants without waiting for rehabilitation.
Hittylathur in Noolpuzha Panchayat is a village surrounded by a forest. The state government is trying to move 20-life families and rehabilitate them in a suitable place. However, the inhabitants of Hittylath resist this step. Meanwhile, they complained that they had been denied basic infrastructure such as roads, water and electricity in the name of rehabilitation over the last 15 years.
At a meeting attended by several inhabitants, together with representatives of people and government officials, the deputy asked officials to provide a list of villages and fulfill them because the proposed rehabilitation was difficult and solving time consuming.
A representative of the forest department informed that 107 families in the general category and 16 tribal families have already been rehabilitated from Chettylathur. Those who remain in the village were not in their own country. Most of them must be moved to rehabilitation camps during the monsoon. The attacks of wild animals are also common in this area. Those who move out can start the construction of their houses in the country provided by the government within one year, the official said.
Meanwhile, the inhabitants complained that some of those who moved out of the village should still get part of 15 lakhs promised as financial assistance. Mlas T. Siddique and IC Balakrishhnan, District President Panchayat Shamsad Marakkar, Noolpuzha Panchayat President Sheeja Satheesh and District Collector Dr. Meghasree.
