The Maharashtra Cyber Police have registered a case against stand-up comedian Pranit More, web developer Himanshu Jangra and others for allegedly spreading “obscene and objectionable” content on social media and summoned them for investigation, an official said on Thursday (Jun 11, 2026).

Mr More and Mr Jangra are at the center of a row over remarks made during a comedy show in Gurugram that allegedly glorified coercion and non-consensual behavior towards a woman.

A case was registered at the Nodal Cyber Police Station here after a preliminary investigation into the viral video clips of the show hosted by Mr More, said a cyber police official.

The videos, he said, contained offensive remarks about women, consent and deceased persons that violated public decency.

“One of the viral clips contained remarks by Himanshu Jangra suggesting a claim for physical intimacy in exchange for money spent during a date, depicting women in a derogatory manner and downplaying consent,” the official said.

Another clip from the same show featured Dr. Sejala Pawara, who made derogatory comments regarding medical cadavers and the bodies of deceased men being used for educational purposes, which the authorities described as highly disrespectful to the dignity of the deceased, said.

The controversial clips were posted on platforms like YouTube and Instagram to increase viewership, the official said.

A case has been registered against Mr. More, Mr. Jangra, Mr. Pawar and other unidentified individuals under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act along with the Information Technology Act, he said.

Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra and Dr. Sejal Pawar has been summoned to appear before Maharashtra Cyber for investigation and record his formal statements, the official said.

Maharashtra Cyber has also issued an advisory urging content creators, digital influencers and internet users to follow the legal framework while creating online material, he said.

The police also warned citizens against sharing controversial material, saying that downloading or spreading obscene content could attract strict legal action under IT and criminal laws.

The controversy started after Mr. Jangra recounted a date during the show when he spent ₹370 on a plate of chicken biryani. When the woman asked him to take her home, he said he was looking for sexual favors for the money he spent on biryani. Mr More was seen laughing at the remark.

Both involved apologized after facing backlash on social media, and the comedian also deactivated his Instagram account.

Earlier in the day, the National Commission for Women (NCW) had summoned Mr. More and Mr. Jangra, taking suo motu cognizance of the media reports and the viral video footage of the show. NCW Chairman Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Haryana Director General of Police asking for immediate action and a report within seven days.
